A CPU cabinet consists of several components. All these components together make a computer functional. A PC fan is one of the significant components of a computer. It is attached to the CPU cabinet.
The primary function of these fans is to maintain active cooling when the system is running. Whenever you turn on the PC, the fans rotate to keep a proper heat transfer.
It draws cool air from outside to the cabinet and removes the warm air from inside which helps to cool a particular component. The fan can be attached to any components in a CPU cabinet like the case, PSU, CPU, GPU, motherboard, etc.
However, what if the fans stop spinning? Many users face this problem when a particular fan in the cabinet stops spinning, this can cause a severe problem for that component. In this article, we will see how to fix this particular issue.
Identify the Fan
The first thing you need to do is look for the fan that is not functioning. The PC consists of multiple fans for different components. So, you have to look for the particular fan which is not working.
This will give you a clear understanding of where the problem lies and how to fix it. Most users report these issues with their GPU or CPU components. And it’s obvious because they consume the most power. Once you know which fan is not working you can follow the steps below.
Disconnect USB Device
You can disconnect all the USB devices from your computer. It includes mouse, keyboard, wireless adapter, hubs, etc. Anything that is plugged into the USB ports just unplugs it. You can also remove any USB device connected internally to your computer with a motherboard.
Once you’re done remove the power from your computer and wait for a few minutes. After some time turn on the computer but don’t insert any USB device. If the computer is starting, then there is a problem with any of the USB devices. If the issues persist, then follow the next fix.
Remove Expansion Card and Memory Modules
The next thing you can try is removing the expansion cards and memory modules and see if there is any problem with them. So, start by removing the power from your system and disconnecting all the power connections from the PSU.
Now remove all the expansion cards and memory modules(don’t remove the CPU). You can also remove the SATA connectors as well. Once you’re done then carefully, connect all the components one by one. Make sure they are perfectly fitted in their respective slots.
Also, reconnect the PSU the same way. It is the main step as this ensures that all the components are making a proper connection with the PSU.
Now again turn on your computer, if it fails to do so. Then there is a problem with the component, it can be either defective or incompatible with your system.
Remove Other Components
If your motherboard supports onboard graphics then you can also remove the GPU from the computer and start the system without it. If that’s working, it means there is a problem with the GPU or the PSU doesn’t have enough power to run the GPU as well.
It can be any other component, but usually, with these symptoms, the main culprit is the PSU. The final thing you can do from your end is replaced a few other components and see if there is any issue with them.
These components include HDD/SSD, PSU, GPU, RAM, CPU, and finally the motherboard. It would be better if you replace the component in the same order. This will clarify whether the issue is with any of these components.
